Children’s Day Out (CDO)

Program Overview

The Children’s Day Out (CDO) program is designed specifically for two- and three-year-olds, offering a Christ-centered, play-based environment that encourages growth and development. This program provides a strong foundation for future learning while fostering independence, creativity, and social skills.

Children participate in a variety of hands-on activities each day, including arts and crafts, storytelling, music, dramatic play, gym time, outdoor exploration, and Bible lessons. Through these activities, CDO nurtures children’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual development.

Our state-licensed program operates Monday through Friday, running from September to May, to accommodate the busy schedules of working families. Within our safe and caring environment, children engage in a variety of enriching activities including arts and crafts, storytelling, imaginative play, music, and physical activities designed to enhance motor skills.

Highlights of CDO

  • Gym Time: Builds strength, coordination, and gross motor skills. Craft Time: Develops fine motor skills and creativity.
  • Dramatic Play: Encourages role play, empathy, and social problem-solving. Book Time: Fosters literacy, language development, and a love for reading. Outdoor Time: Provides fresh air, exploration, and social play.
  • Free Play: Encourages independence, self-expression, and curiosity.
  • Bible Time: Introduces children to the love of Jesus through age-appropriate stories and songs.

Assessments & Conferences

At the end of each semester, families receive written assessments that highlight their child’s growth and progress. These reports provide a full picture of the child’s academic learning, developmental milestones, and social-emotional growth.

In addition, we hold parent-teacher conferences in early March. These meetings give families and teachers a dedicated time to talk together about each child’s progress, celebrate strengths, and discuss areas for continued support.

By working in partnership with families, we create a positive environment where children can thrive. This collaboration helps ensure every child receives the guidance and encouragement they need to grow academically, emotionally, and socially.

Guidance & Management

At Epworth ELC, we believe that helping children learn self-control is an important part of early development. Our goal is for each child to build self- discipline through gentle and consistent guidance. Expectations are set with the age and ability of each child in mind. Teachers establish clear and reasonable rules, explain logical consequences, and gradually offer more responsibility as children are ready. Children are always made aware of expectations in ways they can understand. Positive reinforcement and redirection are the primary tools we use to guide behavior. This approach helps children feel supported, respected, and capable of making good choices. All guidance and management practices at Epworth ELC follow the regulations outlined in section 5101:2-12-22 of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. These standards apply to every staff member and every child in our care, ensuring consistency, safety, and fairness for all.
