Hello Johnathan. Thanks for this question and for engaging with our Column. The Law of Attraction is an ancient realization addressed throughout the Bible. Even as far back as the Old Testament Book of Proverbs written by King Solomon, considered one of the oldest books of the Bible. However, this concept is as new and relevant as this very moment in time. Just last week a new movie was released starring Toledo’s own Ms. Katie Holmes called The Secret.  What a sweet and talented young lady she is and we are all so proud of her!

The Biblical principle comes from Proverbs 23:7 “As a man thinks in his heart so is he.  As a woman thinks in her heart so is she.” In Jeremiah we read, “I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans for good and not for evil.  Plans to give you a future and a hope.” Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” And ultimately Jesus proclaims in Matthew 15:11 “It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth.” These are just the tip of the iceberg of Biblical truth related directly to your question. I shared a message about this very idea last Sunday entitled, “Making Positive Faith Work For You” you and our other readers can watch this broadcast 24/7 at Epworth.com/sermons. The Law of Attraction means that whatever you think about, speak about, dwell on mentally and spiritually you inject into the world around you. If you are speaking negatively about yourself and others, your potential, your circumstances then it stands to reason that the negativity generated will spill back into your life and adversely impact others around you. I often tell people that negativity is very dangerous.  Because it truly does create a pattern of speech and behavior that can have harmful and devastating consequences.

Remember this “Your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, you actions become your habits and your habits shape your life.”  Since I don’t know you personally I can’t answer the second part of your question conclusively.  My advice to you is to listen to how you speak, pay attention to your thoughts, be aware of what you allow around you in terms of input.  If you notice a regular dose of negativity either coming to, through or from you…. that is your answer. If there is abundant negativity in your life that can and will create a self-fulfilling prophecy of problems.

I also encourage you to start attending a Positive place of Worship like Epworth United Methodist Church where you will hear hope-filled messages each weekend.  You will also be around people who are encouraging and want the best for you.  Also begin reading the positive, uplifting messages of the Bible.  If you don’t have one be sure to let us know at [email protected] and we will be happy to provide a Bible absolutely free to you and anyone else reading this column.  While you’re at it check out Katie Holmes newest movie and join me in cheering on our hometown girl!

Blessings to you, Johnathan and our many readers as together we accentuate the positive and appreciate the goodness in our lives right now and all of the wonderful things to come.
