Hello Amelia. Thanks for writing into our Column. We are always happy to answer questions from friends like you from across our region. I'm glad you read our weekly Column and that it offers help, inspiration and hope to so many friends of all ages and backgrounds. Some time ago I preached a message entitled, "Some Things We Can Do God Can't." That seemed to garner a lot of attention and we had a big response in attendance as well as numerous orders for the dvd and cd of that presentation.

My message then essentially answers your question now. Are there things that God can't do? Absolutely. This concept is summed up in the New Testament message found in 2 Timothy 2:13; "If we are faithless, God remains faithful. For He cannot deny Himself." Let me break it down for you and our other faithful readers:

  • GOD CANNOT LIE.....The Bible reminds us "It is impossible for God to lie, therefore we have strong consolation, who come to Him for refuge and hope" (Hebrews 6:18).
  • GOD CANNOT CHANGE.....God simply can't change.  He has chosen to remain steadfast, immoveable, always abounding in grace.  "For I am the Lord and I change not"  (Malachi 3:6).
  • GOD CANNOT BREAK A PROMISE.....Just like a rainbow after the rain, God will always be there for you and will never turn His back on you.  "My covenant I will not break nor will I alter anything that has gone out from my lips" (Psalm 89:34).
  • GOD CANNOT STOP LOVING YOU....."Come to know and believe the love God has for us.  God is love and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in them" (1 John 4:16).

There you have it, friends. There definitely are some things God can't and won't do. The Good News for us is that we can depend on God's promises and rely on His unchanging, never ending Love for each of us. I personally invite you to be our guest each weekend in Worship where you will discover more about Him and find Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow and a Place to Call Home.
