Hi Isabella. In the current political environment in which we live I can understand your question. America has for generations been regarded as the Land of Opportunity. However, many seem to be questioning this fact. As people of faith we have the ability to look at life, our goals and dreams from the viewpoint of faith and the Plus Factor which is our relationship with Jesus and what that means for daily living.
We are fortunate to live in a State that has produced some of the most dynamic, accomplished and phenomenal people in history. This list includes 8 U.S. Presidents and leaders in every field from athletics to film, religion to space exploration. Some of these names include Orville and Wilbur Wright (sons of a Methodist preacher), Thomas Edison, Jesse Owens, Doris Day, Roy Rogers, Clark Gable, Norman Vincent Peale, Paul Lynde, Dean Martin, Mike Douglas, John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Rob Lowe and Katie Holmes! This list just skims the surface of American Dreams fulfilled through effort, stick-to-itiveness courage and talent.
We are reminded in Psalm 37:4, "Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." What are your dreams? Name them, write them down and then take action. Put concrete steps in place to achieve what you desire and then work these steps. Start with what you have now and envision others coming alongside to help you.
No one has the ability to stop you but you. Allow that truth to sink in for a moment. Also it is crucial that you don't let fear impede your future. Isaiah 41:10 encourages us "Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God, I will strengthen and help you...."
When two Methodist kids from Dayton were working in their Bicycle shop hoping to build the first successful airplane they wrote these three goals in their business plan:
Take calculated risks
Allow the great advice of our ancestors to givr you a good starting point for your own plan of Success.
The American Dream is definitely still alive because we are. This concept only exists in the hearts of the people who believe in that dream and in the God who planted this idea in human hearts in the first place.
Don't give up. I believe your best days are just around the corner.
