Dr. Swisher, Can you help me get the most out of life?  Embry, Genoa, Ohio

Hello Embry.  Thanks for your question. Absolutely we can help.  I was just giving a message last weekend about a very similar subject. The title was this “Simple Ways to Bring Joy to others...and Yourself.”

Try these tips:

  • Smile...
Smiling lights up the world around you. Scientists say a smile increases creativity and brings joy.
  • Sing or hum a Happy tune...
You know how you feel when you hear your favorite song?  You can bring that same emotion as you sing, hum, tap your feet or whistle  Music is a powerful force mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
  • Write a  Nice  note, text or email...
Too many people have become accustomed to being rude sending mean communication and seeking to force their own way no matter how unreasonable or unwelcome.  Let’s change that fact by flooding our Community, State and Nation with Positive, Hope-filled notes of Joy and Gratitude.
  • Do Something you love...
Life is too short to be unhappy.  You have the power to choose what you do, where you go, what you enjoy and who you love.  Why not throw caution to the wind and make the choice to do what you love and love what you do.
  • Be Generous...
All of us have the ability to be generous people. The Bible reminds us in Deuteronomy “Don’t be stingy but rather be generous in helping others.”  A recent University of Oregon study found that when we are generous the same Synapses in the brain are engaged as if we had just enjoyed our favorite meal or viewed our favorite piece of art.”

Ultimately generosity brings pleasure and produces joy because we know deep down we are making the World a better place. Get started today, Embry and your life will improve as you bless others.
