Bring your family, friends, business associates, clients and neighbors for a wonderful evening of good food and great fellowship. Do you know why it’s called Shrove Tuesday? Shrove Tuesday is the term used in the United States, Britain, Ireland and Australia to refer to the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the start of the liturgical season of Lent. Shrove Tuesday is also referred to as Pancake Day because it is customary to eat pancakes on this day. The word shrove is a past tense of the English verb “shrive,” which means to obtain absolution for one’s sins by confessing and doing penance. Shrove Tuesday is also referred to as Fat Tuesday, or in French-speaking countries it is known as Mardi Gras. Now you know the rest of the story. We hope to see you, your family and friends at Epworth’s Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on March 8. Come HUNGRY!!! |
