Cookson Hills Center
Cookson Hills Center, located in Cookson, Oklahoma, has been in operation since 1948. This rural mission program provides Native Americans with scholarships, health programs, a thrift store, a food cooperative, vocational training, and emergency assistance. Epworth sent a workteam to Cookson in the early 1990's and has supported the program since then. We brought Meri Whittaker, their Executive Director, here in 2002 to speak to our congregation. Our 2004 mission workteam replaced an asphalt roof and rebuilt a bathroom on a Cherokee family's home.
