For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them; Romans 12: 4 - 6 (Revised Standard Version) The Nominations Committee is responsible for securing names for nomination to the annual Church Conference for election to the various church committees, boards, and task groups. Presently there are over 300 elected positions in Epworth United Methodist Church. Most positions are for three year terms with each class composing a third of the group. For instance, there are nine Trustees. Three of the Trustee's terms will end this year and it will be the Nominating committee's duty to nominate three new Trustees for a three year term at the annual Church Conference. The same would occur the next year and so on. Three final things should be stated. First, persons can be nominated for positions in the church from the floor of the Church Conference and in those areas where there is a Disciplinary limit as to the number that may serve, a run-off election is held at that time. Second, the pastor is the chairperson of the committee. This is the only committee in the church in which the pastor is designated and allowed by United Methodist polity to be chair. And finally it is the responsibility of the Nominating Committee to fill vacancies that occur during the year. Mid-year nominees names are taken to the next Administrative Council meeting for election.
