Upcoming Missions trips
Epworth members and friends of Epworth sure have been busy this fall participating and planning mission trips.
Epworth’s Adult Mission Team
makes a difference to vulnerable, often voiceless, people
in rural Appalachia.
Watch and listen to the powerful story of the team’s highly productive week at Good Works, Inc., an outstanding Christian organization that successfully brings dignity, hope and community to nice folks struggling with issues of poverty and homelessness in a highly depressed region of Ohio.
In the month of October only, we have launched three mission teams into some very needy communities. The trips include a 14 member team, led by Bob & Marilyn Town, on a 6 day, 5 night operation in Athens, OH in partnership with the Good Works organization to assist the impoverished communities of SW Ohio; in late October we’ll have a team of four heading back to Haiti, led by Pete Machin, working on the distribution of water filtration devices design to provide desperately needed clean drinking water to areas around Port a Prince; also in late October, Jo Hartman and Pastor Keith Luke will make a pilgrimage to the Dominican Republic (DR) to experience the region’s approach to physical therapy.
The planning is well under way for two more trips for the first part of 2012. In early January, a team led by Pastor Keith Luke will make a trek to Samara, Russia to reconnect with an orphanage, as well as providing leadership and musical training at a Methodist church embedded within a gypsy community. In late January / early February, Jo Hartman will be leading a team back to Haiti to initiate a series of Physical Therapy (PT) workshops designed to assist the medical staff and volunteers of Grace Children’s Hospital with the beginnings of a PT clinic. |
